Manitowoc has unveiled its newly expanded training center in São Paulo, Brazil, significantly enhancing its capacity and capabilities. Located in the Lapa district, the facility has doubled in size, making it the largest Manitowoc training center in Latin America. This expansion is a strategic move to improve customer support and address the increasing demand for technician training in the region.
The upgraded center now features an advanced crane simulator, a new classroom and an additional instructor. These improvements enable technicians to practice a wide range of actions, including troubleshooting, maintenance procedures, and operational system testing for various Manitowoc products. The simulators cover systems such as EPIC, Canbus, and the Crane Control System (CCS), mirroring the technology and training standards found at Manitowoc’s facilities in the U.S. and Germany. This makes the São Paulo center one of the most advanced training hubs in the lifting industry.
Carlos Batista, the training manager for Manitowoc Latin America, highlighted that the center will offer a variety of courses throughout the year. These courses are available to dealers, end users, and Manitowoc staff across Latin America and are conducted in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. Participants receive a Manitowoc qualification upon completing each session, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle Manitowoc’s crane systems.
The Brazilian training program mirrors the content offered at other Manitowoc training centers worldwide, with a focus on the most popular models and issues relevant to the Latin American market. One of the new offerings in São Paulo is the GMK6.3 class, which focuses on MTU engines and Mercedes transmissions found in Grove GMK cranes. This class addresses the shortage of fully trained technicians in these technologies in the region and facilitates access to diagnostic tools. Proper training can drastically reduce repair times, enabling technicians to fix engines in two to three hours instead of two to three weeks.
