Manitowoc Calls Boilermakers Back to Work

December 8, 2011–Manitowoc Crane, Manitowoc, Wis., is recalling 37 laid-off boilermakers union members, according to a report from WBAY-TV. Last month, Manitowoc issued temporary layoff notices to members of the union due to a production slow-down resulting from an International Association of Machinists Local 516 strike.

The company plans to hire temporary replacement workers and recall the boilermakers to meet customer demand. The first 12 boilermakers returned to work on Dec. 7th, and the other 25 will return December 12th.

The company has yet to reach an agreement with the machinists union, but plans to continue to negotiate a new contract in good faith.
