December 21, 2016 - Wren Works used a Manitowoc 11000-1 crawler crane to help build a retaining wall at the Mont du Lac Resort, a skiing destination in Superior, Wis. Using 140 ft. of boom, the 110-ton crane lifted an 18.5-ton pile hammer to heights of 75 ft. to drive a series of 14 H-piles into the ground. Gangs of timber that weighed 0.5 tons were then lifted to a height of 60 ft. and inserted between the piles, creating a foundation for the retaining wall that will eventually shore up the resort’s new banquet room.

“We’re working on a 25 percent grade for this project so we needed a crane that had the power to traverse the job site,” explained Brook Benes, president of the Poplar, Wisconsin-based company. “The 11000-1 had plenty of power to drive the tracks up to the top of the hill, and the crane’s capacity and easy set-up helped us to keep construction on schedule.”

Minneapolis-based Hayden-Murphy Equipment rented the crane to Wren Works for the project, which was completed in November 2016.
