Manitowoc Suspends Operations in Brazil
January 18, 2015 - Manitowoc Cranes has announced it will shutter its Brazilian operations. The Passo Fundo city facility will suspend operations for an undetermined period of time due to “depressing market conditions,” said Pedro Oliveira, operations director.
According to reports by Diesel Progress, the director also said that while it was hard to communicate such news, it was necessary due to “depressing market conditions in our region as well as political, social, and economical issues…These operational changes compensate the decline in the demand of our products and help us to measure correctly our business and put us in a better position to compete in the global cranes market,” Oliveira said, adding that it was the company’s intention is to re-establish operations when conditions allow.
