NCCCO Calls for New Program Volunteers, Plans Mid-April Meetings

March 12, 2007 • The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators is calling for qualified individuals to act as task force members and item writers to develop its riggers and signalpersons certification programs.

Two separate task forces will guide the development of these certification programs. Task force applicants must be able to demonstrate significant expertise in their chosen subject areas, as well as devote sufficient time and resources to attending several (four-five) in-person meetings during the anticipated 12-18 month development timeframe.

Participation in item (question) writing activities also requires significant subject matter expertise, but the work commitment is less than that of a full task force member. In addition, most of this work will be conducted via conference calls and email rather than through in-person meetings. Interested task force members or item writers should complete applications as soon as possible at www.nccco.org.

Additionally, the NCCCO has planned task force and exam management meetings in mid-April to help implement its plans for developing the riggers and signalpersons certification programs. Sponsored by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local Branch 3 JAC, Stateline, Nev., the meetings will be held April 16-21 at Harvey's Lake Tahoe Casino and Resort, where a block of rooms has been reserved for NCCCO attendees at $99 per room. Attendees must reserve rooms before April 9 to get the group rate and should fly to the Reno-Tahoe airport.
