The NCCCO Foundation and the National Safety Council (NSC), through its Work to Zero initiative, have developed a free online tool to enhance safety for crane and load-handling equipment users.
The tool provides a list of controls to address hazardous situations linked to serious incidents and fatalities in crane operations.
“The NCCCO Foundation is excited to provide this new tool to the crane industry along with our friends at the National Safety Council”, T.J. Cantwell, NCCCO Foundation executive director said.
“Companies and individuals can simply select from a variety of common safety hazards such as fatigue, fall from height, contact with overhead powerlines, equipment overturn/tipping and many more, to produce a variety of control options to help mitigate or eliminate them on the jobsite,” Cantwell added.
The list was created by reviewing safety literature and gathering input from industry experts. Users can select common hazards, such as fatigue, falls, contact with overhead power lines and equipment overturns, to receive control options aimed at mitigating or eliminating these risks.
Controls are organized by the Hierarchy of Controls, which ranks approaches from elimination and substitution to engineering controls, administrative measures and personal protective equipment.
