November 29, 2010 – The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), Gainesville, Fla., broke ground last week for its future home at Progress Corporate Park, Alachua, Fla. The new headquarters will be designed by The Haskell Co. of Jacksonville, Fla., and NCCER plan to move in in the fall of 2011. The 31,000-square-foot building will be designed to LEED silver certification. As a provider of construction training and certification, NCCER’s new headquarters will serve as an educational facility, with cutouts that showcase the skilled work of our craft professionals.
Also included in the building will be the national headquarters for ProV, NCCER’s testing and assessment development partner, and a generous conference space, which will allow for a variety of training courses to be offered.
“This is truly a momentous occasion for our organization,” NCCER President Don Whyte said at the ceremony. “Fifteen years ago, NCCER was just a dream and vision of many industry leaders. Today, we are one of the premier workforce development organizations for the construction industry. As we break ground today on our new building and permanent home, we look forward to a bright future filled with success, growth and an even greater level of service to the construction industry and the men and women who make it great.”
Ground-breaking ceremony attendees included Alachua Mayor Gib Coerper; Alachua city commissioner Ben Boukari Jr.; Alachua city manager Traci Cain; University of Florida M.E. Rinker School of Building construction director Dr. Abdol Chini; Alachua county school district career and technical education director Dave Edwards; University of Florida’s Sid Martin; biotechnology incubator associate director Patti Breedlove; ProV president Henry Sorensen; North American Crane Bureau executive vice president Joe Crispell; and other representatives of the construction and academic communities.
