Straightpoint installs 60-ton load cell test machine. |
February 16, 2016 - Straightpoint has installed a two new load cell test machines, including a 60-ton load cell test machines at its facility in Camarillo, Calif., and a 110-ton unit at its location in Hampshire, U.K.
The MTS universal machine in Hampshire location can test in compression and tension throughout Straightpoint's load cell range up to 110 tons. David Ayling, director of Straightpoint, said the MTS unit is "a universal testing machine combined with customized tooling, creating a top-of-the-range rig tailored to the specific requirements of force measurement, load monitoring and suspended weighing load cell equipment.”
It joins a 10-year-old, manual 385-ton machine on the workshop floor. Engineers who previously applied loads and controlled the machine manuall now have access to closed-loop, servo-controlled testing ability. An additional investment in hydraulic drive systems and computer controls means the technological benefits of the new test rig can be applied to the older one.
The California tensile calibration machine represents a now complete six-figure investment at both facilities with equipment that can calibrate and recalibrate load cells. John Molidor, general manager for Straighpoint Inc., said the test machine is significant to U.S. customers because it provides in-house caibration services for a number of markets. The North American unit will test load cells calibrated and retraceable to ASTM E4.
