Open Call for 2016 Top Trainer Award Nominations

June 2, 2016 - In May at the Association of Crane & Rigging Professionals’ General Assembly in Chattanooga, Tenn., winners of the 2015 Top Trainer Awards were recognized for their service to the industry. Not only do the Professional and Corporate Trainers who receive the award employ best practices, but they also build trust and make the content relatable to students.

Patrick Clark, national rental support manager for Lifting Gear Hire, received the 2015 Corporate Top Trainer Award. With hundreds of rigging and material handling products in LGH's rental fleet, he is required to have a vast knowledge of each product's proper use and inspection. Described by trainers as patient, knowledgeable, and approachable, Patrick raised the bar for safety not only at LGH but also with the company's clients.

The 2015 Professional Top Trainer Award was presented to Jeffery Ellis of Crane Tech. Jeff joined Crane Tech in 2008, and since then, he has provided instruction to more than 2,000 students and has an overall 99.6% instruction satisfaction rating. He has been described as an instructor who assesses his students’ knowledge levels and develops his training based on their needs. Customers have credited Jeff with saving the company money, reducing accidents, and preventing equipment downtime.

The Top Trainer Annual Training Excellence Awards will return in 2016. In the November issue of Crane Hot Line, the crane and rigging industry’s most influential safety trainers in construction and heavy industry will be recognized for their positive impact on students, the work environment, or the industry through the use of innovative training techniques or hands-on instruction; by encouraging peer or corporate accountability; and through quantitative or anecdotal evidence that the training was successful.

For the past nine years, trainers working for crane dealers, rigging suppliers, rental companies, insurance companies, contractors, inspection companies, manufacturers, heavy haulers, professional training organizations, and more have received Top Trainer awards. These trainers have shown their ability to build trust among students and make their content relevant to the jobsite and trainees.
