Pettibone’s challenge will put operators to the test in a quest to find the best operator in the country.
Contestants will have their choice of two types of 9,000-pound telehandlers: the Extendo Series with an extending boom, and the Traverse Series with a transfer boom. Participants are required to demonstrate precise driving skills and accurate load placing while navigating through a closed course designed to represent an actual jobsite. Overall productivity and observance of safety procedures are the guidelines for the competition, and scores will be calculated on time, accuracy, and safety.
The top driver will take home a new 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Interested drivers who are up to the challenge must be registered for the World of Masonry/World of Concrete expo and sign a waiver of liability to qualify for competition entry.
There will be four rounds of skills competition during the contest. Operators will compete for eight semifinalist spots on Feb. 3-4. Semifinals will begin Feb. 5, where only the top three will advance to the finals that afternoon.
The entry deadline is Jan. 23, 2009. Interested parties can sign up at Pettibone's website.
Pettibone will also be holding an operator's training session free of charge on Feb. 6 for those who would like to earn their telehandler's license and OSHA certification onsite. The session will consist of a half-day classroom session, followed by hands-on training with the machines. Sessions are limited to 20 people, so drivers are encouraged to reserve their spots early.
