August 1, 2007 • The Potain GTMR 386 self-erecting crane is celebrating its 1,000th delivery. The crane was launched in 1989, and since then, customers have taken delivery in countries such as France, Germany, Turkey, Cuba, Russia and Turkmenistan.

David Havard, Potain's global product manager for tower cranes, credits the cranes' popularity to them being well-suited to residential construction, such as apartment blocks or hotels. “In addition, customers like them for their very powerful load curves,” he said. “At 50 meters, the GTMR 386 can lift 1.5 tons or with a 31-meter jib this crane can lift 4.1 tons. This makes them ideal for moving steel formwork and concrete buckets. The GTMR 386 can transport on only three trucks and has good versatility in height and jib length.”

The crane has a maximum capacity of 8 tons and a maximum reach of 50 meters, or about 164 feet. Height under hook is almost 119 feet. The 1,000th crane was delivered to French contractor Sogea Construction.

Potain is a brand of the Manitowoc Crane Group, Manitowoc, Wis.
