Promoting Safety in the Crane Industry

June marks National Safety Awareness Month, a time to spotlight the importance of preventing injuries and saving lives — both on and off the job site. In the crane industry alone, 249 overhead crane incidents occurred in a 10-year period according to the Konecranes Training Institute. 

Organized by the National Safety Council (NSC), the campaign aims to raise awareness around the leading causes of preventable injuries and deaths in the U.S. — many of which are avoidable with the right knowledge, training and culture.

Each week throughout June focuses on a different theme essential to workplace safety and well-being: 

• Week 1: Continuous Improvement – Encouraging regular evaluation of safety processes to reduce risk.
• Week 2: Employee Engagement – Emphasizing the role of active participation in creating a safety-first environment.
• Week 3: Roadway Safety – Promoting awareness of transportation risks, especially critical for mobile crane operators and fleets.
• Week 4: Mental and Physical Wellbeing – Supporting overall worker health to ensure safety starts from within.

The construction and heavy lifting industries face unique challenges in injury prevention, making this month a key opportunity to reinforce best practices and recommit to a culture of safety.
