Purple Scissor and Boom Lifts Join Duke Aerial Fleet

February 16, 2009 – In 2009, Duke Aerial Equipment Inc., with locations in Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa, hopes to raise a significant amount of money for pancreatic cancer research. The scissor and boom lift specialist has painted several of its machines purple—the color of pancreatic cancer awareness—and a portion of the rental rate for those machines will go toward the Linda Tolton Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund at the University of Nebraska Foundation.

Linda Tolton, the wife of Duke Aerial co-owner Ken Tolton, died of the disease last month after being diagnosed just six months before. According to the company’s website, research for pancreatic cancer is underfunded. Early screening tools do not exist, therefore, the cancer is typically advanced by the time it is diagnosed, making it difficult to treat and cure.

The first purple machines in Duke Aerial’s “Rising Up For Cancer Research” program went on rent in Missouri this month. A 60-foot JLG boom lift is working at Terra Bioenergy, a biodiesel plant in St. Joseph, Mo., and two purple Skyjack 3219 scissor lifts are part of about 10 that will be working on the Arrowhead Stadium renovation in Kansas City, Mo. Other machines have been on rent since last fall in Omaha, Neb.
