September 15, 2008 • Scottsdale, Ariz.-based RSC Equipment Rental is lending its support to The New York Says Thank You Foundation volunteer initiative to help rebuild Greensburg, Kan., a town destroyed by a tornado on May 4, 2007. RSC stores in Kansas, including locations in Dodge City and Liberal, provided more than 12 pieces of aerial and earth moving equipment for use in the reconstruction of Greensburg's 14,000-square-foot Main Pavilion of the 4-H County Fairground. The foundation began building the pavilion on Sept. 5.
RSC customers from the local Kansas community also participated. Brackney Construction of Hays oversaw the project and Lester Buildings of Wichita supplied in-kind materials. The New York Says Thank You Foundation effort was led by 250+ volunteers, including New York City firefighters, 9/11 family members and Ground Zero construction workers. The project concluded with a communitywide celebration on Sept. 7.
“RSC is a proud member of the Kansas community and we are thrilled to lend our support to The New York Says Thank You Foundation in this worthy cause,” said Doug Call, senior branch manager. “Our local stores and customers share a deep commitment to helping our neighbors and we are pleased to provide equipment and services for this effort. We applaud the people of Greensburg, like the New York Says Thank You Foundation, they embody tenacity and perseverance. We wish them continued success in their recovery efforts.”
In an annual tradition to commemorate the kindness extended to New Yorkers in the days following Sept. 11, The New York Says Thank You Foundation sends New York City firefighters, many of them survivors of the World Trade Center attacks, to help rebuild communities around the U.S. affected by disaster.
