Sail Boat and Yacht Setup a Breeze for Liebherr Compact Crane
April 18, 2007 • Last winter, German boating enthusiasts marched through the exhibit halls of Hanseboot • the biggest North German boat show • to see the latest sail boats and yachts on the market. Prior to the tradeshow, work took place for weeks in order to set the stage for the large vessels. A 65-ton Liebherr LTC 1055-3.1 compact crane, supplied by Hamburg, Germany-based Knaack, lifted several of the boats before and after the show.

Designed specifically for applications with compact surroundings, the LTC 1055-3.1 can move in areas where conventional all-terrain cranes can only be operated with restrictions, if they can be used at all. At Hanseboot, the compact crane fit through many tight spaces between boats, machines, and workers, as well as exhibitor walkways.
For two and a half weeks, the Liebherr crane positioned boats in the exhibit hall, readying them for the tradeshow. Once the show was over, the crane then loaded the boats back on to their transporters.
“I set up over 50 yachts and dinghies and took them down again after Hanseboot,” said crane operator Lothar Seidenschnur. While other cranes were also brought in to move the boats, Seidenschner said, “They always turned to me for the heavy yachts.” The heaviest boat carried by the crane was about 19 tons.
