Samson Adds Synthetic Crane Hoist Rope Distributors

September 28, 2015 – Samson is making its KZ-100 synthetic hoist rope available for purchase from select distributors in North America, Australia, and Sweden. The first synthetic hoist rope designed specifically for mobile cranes, KZ-100 is a product of joint application between Samson and Manitowoc, supported by fiber supplier DSM Dyneema

Available exclusively through Manitowoc and its dealers since 2014, KZ-100 is now also distributed via North American companies Carpenter Rigging Co., Paducah Rigging, SWOS, and Hercules SLR Inc., as well as Australia’s Bullivants PTY Ltd. and Sweden’s ScanUnit AB.

“We’ve been able to leverage the experience and technical expertise of the Manitowoc and Samson research and development teams to bring the market something completely new with numerous benefits,” said Michael Quinn, Samson’s director of new business development. “This select group of distributors will reach crane owners and operators everywhere with synthetic rope expertise and local customer service not possible without them.”

KZ-100 is a lightweight alternative to traditional steel-wire rope which provides multiple benefits for safe, easy, and efficient handling.  With the same line pull and load chart as wire, KZ-100 can be used with a 5:1 safety factor. It is 80% lighter than the wire it replaces, making handling, reeving, and installation easier.  KZ-100 does not rust and requires no lubing. The unique construction eliminates kinking, birdcaging, and damage caused by diving on the winch drum, according to the manufacturer. Because of its torque-neutral construction, KZ-100 eliminates load spin and cabling, making it a favorite among crane operators who have lifted loads with the rope.

“These distributors have been through extensive training and [are] equipped with the key services, training, and personnel that uphold the hallmarks of quality and service Samson is known for,” noted Quinn.

These distributors convened at Samson’s Ferndale, Wash., facilities in September to complete further training and see KZ-100 in use on a crane. The group was also hosted by Western Pacific Crane & Equipment, west-coast distributor of Manitowoc, Grove, and National crane products, for hands-on training in the installation and handling of KZ-100.
