April 16, 2014 - In the United States, regulations concerning load distribution on roads and bridges varies in each state, stipulating specific load support and regulates wheelbases and the distribution of the load. The Dual Lane Trailer HighwayGiant from Scheuerle has been developed as a flexible vehicle concept to meet the North American market's different road requirements.
The HighwayGiant accommodates variable vehicle widths and can widen the vehicle under load. Thus, the loading area can be adapted to meet the size of the load and distribute the load over the length of the vehicle.
In order to achieve an optimal payload/tare weight ratio, the chassis is manufactured using a stable lightweight construction. As a connection to the towing vehicle, a gooseneck or a drawbar can be used, and equipment such as spacers or decks can easily be fitted.
The HighwayGiant features the pendulum axle technology from Scheuerle. The hydraulic cylinders in the pendulum axles have a large displacement volume in order to be able to drive under and pick up loads. The Scheuerle pendulum axle mounting guarantees, in connection with the precise and smoothly-operating steering system, easy maneuvering even on tight bends. This also supports the large steering angle of up to +/- 60 degrees.
The Highway Giant is available as a PowerBooster, which was first unveiled at ConExpo. With this version, an additional aggregate provides extra thrust when driving and allows the use as a self-propelled vehicle without a tractor. Under certain circumstances, a second tractor is not required during the transport assignment, and the cargo can be shunted into position at the final destination even in confined spaces.
