Aug. 4, 2015 - Scott Powerline and Utility Equipment, Monroe, La., has enjoyed many firsts with the Mantis Crane product line—one of the first dealers, one of the first to place these cranes in a rental fleet, and one of the first to introduce several new models over the years. The company has continued that tradition with Tadano Mantis’ new GTC-1200 (130-ton US) telescopic-boom crawler crane model.

This crane features a 155-ft. full-power telescopic boom as well as a two-piece bi-fold lattice jib and extension, giving a maximum rated tip height of over 220 ft. Furthermore, it allows customers important pick-and-carry capability through 360°. The crane has superior gradability, and its design incorporates many new safety and ease-of-operation features. It is self-erecting and uses the proven Tadano AML-C LMI system.

Scott Powerline's GTC-1200 is the first of this model to be received by a dealer, placed in a rental fleet, and now put to work. The crane is currently in use on a 345 kV powerline construction project near Floydada, Texas, where it is placing steel poles ranging from in height from 120 to 195 ft.  The rental customer is North Houston Pole Line. Coincidentally, they took Scott Powerline’s first Mantis 20010, a 100-ton capacity telecrawler, on a powerline job in 2008. After nearly a month on job, the GTC-1200 is proving its worth.

“As always it is a pleasure teaming with Scott Powerline. Once again they have been able to take care of NHPL when needed,” said Frank Ingram, vice president of operations for North Houston’s Transmission division.  “With our work load of major transmission projects in the south-central region, we found ourselves in need of another large live-boom hydraulic crane.”

Conventional cranes are very restrictive in our line of work due to multiple energized crossings, explained Ingram. “Scott Powerline’s GTC-1200 is a very good fit due to its lifting capacities at max height as well as its pick-and-carry capabilities. I was very pleased with the GTC-1200 when setting a 195-ft. four-piece steel pole. The support from Scott Powerline and the performance of the crane are spot on.”
