SC&RA Longevity Awards to Long-time Members
May 7, 2008 • In recognition and appreciation of loyal membership, the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA) presented 25 Longevity Awards for continuous membership ranging from 25 to 60 years during its annual conference last month in Bonita Springs, Fla. Among those honored were five companies that founded the organization that ultimately became the SC&RA. Dawes Rigging & Crane Rental, Milwaukee, Wis., was one of the companies awarded the 60-Year Longevity Award. Dawes is one of the seven founding members of SC&RA. At that time, the forerunner of Dawes ranked among the top specialized carriers and rigging companies for trade shows. Dawes has been offering full service rigging and crane rental solutions in the Midwest and beyond since 1947 and has been a member of the ALL Erection & Crane Rental Corp. family of companies since 1978. Providing service throughout the Midwest from four Wisconsin locations, the company also recently launched a new website aimed at helping engineers, estimators, project managers, project superintendents, equipment managers and crane operators. Southwestern Industrial Contractors & Riggers, Inc., El Paso, Texas, also earned the 60-Year Longevity Award. Founded in 1920 as Southwestern Fuel and Feed Company, Southwestern Industrial originally hauled coal to homes and business in the El Paso area. During the 1960s, the company played a major role in the rigging, erecting, and construction of many well known institutional, commercial, and industrial facilities in the region. To accent its new direction, the company was renamed, yet again in 1968, to its current name under which it continues operation, Southwestern Industrial Contractors and Riggers, Inc., and is now international in scope. Bragg Crane Service, Long Beach, Calif., received honors in the 40-year category. Founded in 1946, the company has grown from one crane to one of the largest integrated service organizations in the construction industry. With several locations throughout California and Nevada, the Bragg companies are available 24 hours, 7 days a week to provide services that range from heavy transport, structural steel erection to crane rental. Shaughnessy & Ahern Co., Boston, Mass., also received 40-year Longevity Award. The company, which has been around since 1916, regularly solves problems from hoisting, moving, relocating, erecting - everything from whole manufacturing facilities to priceless sculptures. According to the company's site, Shaughnessy introduced hydraulic cranes to New England in 1956. Tidewater Crane & Rigging Co., Virginia Beach, Va., also received the 40-year award. The company has also received SC&RA crane and rigging safety awards for its superior safety records. It won that award in 2005, as well as a Crane & Rigging Zero Accidents Award in 2005. Tidewater also won the Zero Accident award in 2003. Other Longevity Award winners this year include CICB, Orlando, Fla., Cote Corporation, Auburn, Maine, Irving Equipment Ltd., Saint John, New Brunswick, and Mammoet USA, Houston, Texas, which all received the 30-year awards. Taylor Crane & Rigging, Inc., Coffeyville, Kan., received the 25-Year Award.
