February 8, 2016 - Michael A. Nichols, Miller Transfer & Rigging Co., Rootstown, Ohio, has been named Driver of the Year by the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA). He will receive his award during SC&RA’s Specialized Transportation Symposium, March 1-4, in, Memphis, Tenn.
Miller Transfer characterized the heavy-haul driver as “the epitome of safety.” Indeed, Nichols previously had been recognized by SC&RA with a Million Miler Safety Award, given to drivers for accumulating a minimum of one-million consecutive miles accident free.
“He is well known by Department of Transportation inspectors, pilot car escorts, and fellow drivers as someone who approaches every aspect of his business with a safety-first attitude and a strong sense of leadership and professionalism,” said Greg Goucher, director of safety at Miller Transfer. “Fellow drivers and staff seek heavy-haul guidance from Michael for proper loading and operating procedures for all trailers—from flatbed to 19 axles. As a safety advocate, Michael’s efforts at instilling wisdom are second to none.”
The Association is accepting nominations for the next SC&RA Driver of the Year until March 15, 2016. A driver may be nominated for a long record of safe and courteous driving, demonstrated leadership among peers, and outstanding contributions to highway safety.
