The Specialized Carriers & Rigging Foundation (SC&RF) has released a white paper titled "Public Benefits And Economic Dependency On The Crane, Rigging And Specialized Transport Industry." Designed as an external resource, this paper aims to educate business owners, advocacy groups and stakeholders outside these industries about their essential roles in society and the profound impact they have on economic development.
“Despite the role of the specialized transportation, crane and rigging industries in the growth and development of our society, the unique challenges and regulations encountered are often not well understood by the public, elected representatives and government officials at a local, state or federal level,” said SC&RF Director Jackie Roskos.
Roskos explained that the white paper was crafted to provide readers with a foundational understanding of the specialized transportation, crane, and rigging sectors, while also laying the groundwork for focused conversations.
“Additionally, we feel that it’s important to keep in mind that this paper is meant to be used in a variety of ways to educate communities, public officials, and customers,” she noted. “The information and perspective put forth in this paper should allow anyone establishing rules or working with companies in these or related lines of work, a deeper understanding of how these industries function, and the fundamental value they bring to society.”
The white paper delves into the significant public benefits these industries offer, emphasizing their pivotal roles in facilitating the safe and efficient movement of commercial goods and services worldwide. It sheds light on the collaborative efforts involved in loading, transporting and delivering materials essential for large-scale construction projects across various sectors.
“The specialized transportation, crane and rigging industries are most visible to the public when looking at a city skyline, during industrial development and when highway, rail and ship are transporting large and heavy goods,” said current SC&RF president and owner at JK Crane, Jennifer Gabel. “Their contribution is rooted in all aspects of modern society – from the buildings we live in, the generation and transportation of energy, the roads and bridges we use, and beyond. This white paper will be used to improve overall understanding, attract talent, and facilitate discussions with elected representatives and government officials – which ultimately results in a stronger industry.”
The paper aims to bridge the gap in understanding among stakeholders, including transportation planners, legislators, job seekers and career counselors, by providing insights into the unique challenges and contributions of specialized transportation, crane, and rigging industries. It also highlights the diverse range of specialized equipment and the complexity of projects undertaken by these industries, emphasizing their indispensable role in shaping modern infrastructure and economic growth.
