Skyjack Plant to Close for Four Weeks

November 18, 2008 – According to the Guelph Mercury, workers at Skyjack Plant 1 in Guelph, Ontario, will be temporarily laid off for four weeks in December. A number of scissor lift models are manufactured in this facility. The article stated that only employees at that specific plant will be affected, although Skyjack’s parent company Linamar Corp. did not confirm how many employees would be laid off.

Third quarter results for Linamar’s industrial segment, which includes Skyjack, decreased 21.3 percent. The company noted sales for the third quarter of 2008 differed from the corresponding period in 2007 as a result of significant volume reductions due to uncertainty in the market and restricted credit availability, particularly in Europe.

Linamar could not be reached by Lift and Access for comment.
