The Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries reported 297 crane-related deaths between 2011 and 2017, averaging 42 fatalities each year. Additional analysis from Crane Training University found that 249 crane incidents resulted in 838 OSHA violations, as well as 133 injuries and 133 deaths. Together, the numbers underscore the high-risk nature of crane operations and the continued importance of improving jobsite safety.

As construction, infrastructure and industrial activity continue to expand across North America, crane operations are becoming increasingly complex. Larger projects and tighter schedules are placing greater pressure on maintaining safe and efficient jobsites. At the same time, OSHA requirements and industry regulations continue to evolve.

Safety technology has become an increasingly important part of managing those risks. Systems designed to improve visibility, communication, monitoring and operator awareness can help crews identify hazards earlier, reduce the potential for incidents and support safer lifting practices. From fall protection and camera systems to load monitoring, anti-collision systems and alert technologies, safety-focused equipment is playing a larger role in helping companies protect workers and maintain productivity.
