Southern Industrial Hires Safety Manager for South Carolina Office

February 14, 2008 • Raleigh, N.C.-based Southern Industrial Constructors/Southern Crane, a full-service industrial contractor, has named Richard Thompson as the companies' new safety manager. In his new capacity, Thompson will oversee the safety training, drug testing, accident investigations, new hire orientation and safety program review for the companies' Columbia, S.C., office.

"Richard will serve an important role managing all the important safety needs that keep Southern Industrial and Southern Crane a safe and efficient place to work," said Earl Johnson III, president of Southern Crane. "I'm delighted he has joined our team."

Thompson will report to Phil Hooper, vice president of safety and risk management. Thompson has 35 years of experience working in the construction industry and has spent the last eight years focusing exclusively on safety.

Thompson also will have client-relation responsibilities in his new role, visiting various jobsites and meeting with clients to review safety considerations before jobs begin.

Founded in 1962, Southern Industrial provides a wide range of services throughout the Southeast, including turnkey industrial construction, industrial electrical construction, turnkey plant installations and relocations, turnkey rigging and plant maintenance service, and specialized metal fabrication.
