Stevenson recently received the sixth Liebherr LTR 1100 in the United States.
December 2, 2008 – In November, Stevenson Crane hosted a group of civil contractors at its Bolingbrook, Ill., facility to demonstrate its new 120-ton Liebherr LTR 1100 telescopic crawler crane. According to Donna Stevenson, president of Stevenson Crane, the crane is only the sixth of its kind in the United States.

The industry is buzzing about the LTR 1100 because it incorporates the quick setup of an all-terrain crane and the off-road maneuverability of a crawler crane. As the construction industry shifts to doing more with less, contractors are now turning to specialty equipment like telescopic crawlers to do their jobs more efficiently.

Joe Fracasso Jr., president of Area Equipment, attended the event. “At Area Equipment, we’re always looking for innovations in our industry to allow us to perform at the best possible level,” he said. After sitting in the operator’s seat of the new crane, Fracasso said the crane’s healthy chart, compact footprint, and mobility will lend itself well to the company’s bridge jobs.

The Liebherr LTR 1100 is mobilized with only three truckloads and requires no assist crane for setup. During the open house, a Stevenson operator and oiler had the crane set up, counterweights stacked, and the machine ready to hoist in 30 minutes.
