Tadano Launches New 100- and 80-Ton Rough Terrain Cranes

Jan. 31, 2020 —Tadano has launched three new rough terrain cranes: the GR-1000XLL-4, GR-1000XL-4, and GR-800XL-4, with respective capacities of 100 U.S. tons, 100 U.S. tons, and 80 U.S. tons.

In North America, many rough terrain cranes are used in confined spaces, such as refineries, where operating and maintaining cranes can be challenging. The GR-1000XLL-4, GR-1000XL-4, and GR-800XL-4 are designed with these environments in mind.

Tadano’s latest GR rough terrain cranes facilitate more efficient workflow, deliver improved performance with an engine that meets the latest emission standards, and also provide improved  safety and comfort.

The new GR-1000XLL-4, GR-1000XL-4, and GR-800XL-4 mark a full model upgrade of rough terrain cranes in the 75- to 100-U.S.-ton lifting class, previously launched in 2011, so they further increase Tadano’s presence in North America. They continue Tadano’s GR crane tradition of high reliability, quality, and environmental friendliness

The GR-1000XLL-4 features a longer boom of 167.3’, compared to the 154.2’ boom of its predecessor, the GR-1000XL-3. The GR-1000XLL-4’s new Smart Counterweight system lets the operator use two counterweight positions to increase lifting capacity. With a redesigned cab to provide improved visibility and comfort, the GR-1000XLL-4 offers more efficient control and one of the best operator experiences for cranes of its capacity.

The GR-1000XL-4 carries the same model features as the GR-1000XLL-4, but with a 154.3’ boom.

GR-800XL-4: With an upgraded maximum lifting capacity of 80 U.S. tons and a long 154.2’ boom, the GR-800XL-4 is one of the most versatile and well-balanced rough terrain cranes in the industry. Its 99,800-lb. gross vehicle weight makes it easy to transport, and its improved cab enables more efficient operation.

The remodeled cab and fittings, featured on all three new RTs, greatly improve work efficiency, operability, and visibility. The new 10.4” multi-function, color touch-panel display shows crane work information and operation settings. The pressure-sensitive display allows operation even when the operator is  wearing gloves.

The instrument panel’s modified shape, height, and face angle improve visibility from the operator's seat. All three new RTs feature 20° cab tilt that helps reduce operator fatigue.

The GR-1000XLL-4 and GR-1000XL-4 are the first Tadano rough terrain cranes to have the Smart Counterweight system. The system enables the counterweight to have two mounting positions, which increases the lifting capacity by up to approximately 20%. Tadano’s proprietary Smart Chart is also onboard to help maximize the crane’s performance.

A winch-drum-monitoring camera comes standard. So do cameras at the right-front and rear of the crane to help improve visibility while driving. Clearance Sonar, also standard, detects obstacles right behind the crane and warn the operator with a buzzer and flashing icon on the in-cab display.

The new GRs feature a Cummins B6.7 280-hp engine that complies both with EU Stage V and EPA Tier IV emission regulations. To help reduce fuel consumption, a newly developed disconnect system automatically stops hydraulic pump operation when the crane isn’t operated for a certain time.

Other environmentally friendly features include Fuel Monitoring System, Eco-Mode, and Positive Control. Together, they reduce CO2 emissions, increase fuel economy, and reduce noise.

Tadano’s Hello-Net telematics web information service uses mobile communication to check the crane’s operating status. It supports checking the crane’s position with GPS and maintenance information on a website. Tadano shares information about the product in use and offers advanced customer support and service.

Hello-Data Link connects cranes to mobile devices by wireless LAN. That lets users receive operating status, indications, error codes, and other information in real time from outside the cab to help streamline crane maintenance.
