December 7, 2011–Thomas Maske, a Terex Cranes apprentice and construction mechanic in his third year of training, won first place in the gas tungsten arc welding (GATW) category at the national “Jugend schweißt” welding competition held by the DVS (German Association of Welding and Related Processes) in Hamburg on October 14th.
“I learned a lot, especially during the period of intensive preparation in the run-up to the competition,“ Maske said. “I benefitted enormously from the great support I received from Terex, as well as from the expert guidance of my instructor, Jürgen Hoffmann.”
Terex Cranes is currently training about 100 young men and women to become construction mechanics, industrial mechanics, machinists, and mechatronics specialists at its training workshop in Zweibrücken, Germany.
Maske and fellow Terex apprentice Steven Muller also qualified in the welding competition between China and Germany that took place in Lüneburg in late September.
Sascha Hamm, another Terex apprentice, will compete at the upcoming trials for the international WorldSkills competition. As Germany’s current runner-up, Hamm will begin at EuroSkills 2012 in Belgium, where he will compete for a spot at the international WorldSkills competition.
