June 4, 2008 • Privately held full-service crane and rigging operator TNT Crane & Rigging, Houston, Texas, has purchased the assets of Kuhn Crane Service. Kuhn is one of South Texas' largest crane companies operating out of its branches in Corpus Christi and Edinburg, Texas. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The combined company will have 78 cranes servicing Texas from branches located in Houston, Corpus Christi, San Antonio and Edinburg. TNT and Kuhn are now one of the largest crane service providers in South Texas. This includes full service capabilities ranging from boom trucks to 800 tons and a complete portfolio of rigging capabilities. The company will have expanded abilities to service its customers and provide additional advancement opportunities for employees.
Kuhn's strengths in the oilfield service markets and growing commercial markets of South Texas are complementary and strategic to the TNT strengths of industrial plant and shipyard work, a company statement said. The combined company will service a broad range of industries from refinery, petro-chemical, power, oilfield service, road and bridge repair, shipyard and commercial repair and construction.
“The acquisition of Kuhn is a strong strategic fit for TNT and accelerates our growth plans,” said Michael Appling Jr., president and CEO of TNT. “Kuhn has an extremely new and diversified fleet of cranes. Their long-term customer relationships combined with the large crane fleet of TNT will provide additional growth opportunities and enhanced service for our customers. Kuhn further diversifies our revenue base and enhances the energy side of our infrastructure offering. We are now well positioned to serve clients in the oilfields, through the pipelines and compressor stations and into the refineries and other process industries.”
“This merger positions TNT as one of the predominant crane rental service companies in Texas,” said Mike and Ron Kuhn of Kuhn Crane Service in a joint statement said. “It will give our employees opportunities that we would never have been able to offer them, and it gives TNT the opportunity to diversify its customer base. There is no doubt that by combining these two great companies they will now be able to offer an almost limitless supply of lifting and rigging services to all the clientele in the region.”
TNT owns an extensive modern fleet of hydraulic truck cranes with lifting capacities ranging from 15 to 800 tons in addition to gantry jacks, rigging, trailers and other lifting related equipment.
