Two arrested in crane boom theft

July 30, 2008 -- Two men were arrested after California deputies saw them towing a mobile crane boom which had been reported stolen from a construction site in Barstow, Calif. The 30-foot boom, which had been disassembled into 10-foot pieces, was taken from the crane.

According to reports in the Desert Dispatch, footprints were found at the scene, and there was a winch in the back of the truck. One of the men told deputies they had the property owner's permission to take the boom. The property owner denied the claim. The men were arrested on suspicion of grand theft and possession of stolen property. The estimated value of the boom was $6000.
