September 19, 2007 • Bridgeview, Ill.-based Veri-Tek International has announced that its Manitex subsidiary has received an order for 18 of its 5096S 50-ton boom trucks. This order is one of the largest single orders for boom trucks in the company's 20-year history. Initial shipments are scheduled for delivery in January 2008, with the balance scheduled for delivery throughout the year.

“We could not be more pleased, not only with this order, but with the overall reception this new product has received in the marketplace,” said Scott Rolston, Manitex general manager. “In fact, in the three short months since this product was first put into production, we have received orders for 29 units, which we believe evidences the demand for higher-capacity boom trucks and the market's appreciation and acceptance of the capabilities and quality of the Manitex 5096S model. The order is targeted for the oilfield infrastructure services industry, which is among the key strategic markets that we look to for future growth.”

The 5096S has a base rating of 50 tons at a 6-foot radius, a rating that exceeds the maximum base rating of currently produced conventional boom trucks by 25 percent. The market for this new boom truck includes rental companies, the oil and gas service industry, and the mining, road and bridge construction industries. The 5096S crane also provides cross-over uses into lifting markets traditionally supported by truck cranes mounted on custom carriers. The company estimates the 2006 North American market for cranes in this capacity range was in excess of 300 units.
