What Can an Articulating Crane Do for You?
![]() |
Articulating cranes have long been popular in Europe, and while their use in North America is steadily growing, many operators are still unaware of the benefits of investing in an articulating crane.
With the capability to deliver more lift and reach than a body-mounted telescopic crane, articulating cranes offer flexibility and an array of sizes suited to accommodate operators’ needs. There’s practically no learning curve for operators who are used to telescopic cranes; the transition to operating articulating cranes relies on familiar operating techniques.
“Articulating cranes allow for more reach and larger lift capacities,” says Tom Wallace, sales manager at Iowa Mold Tooling Co. Inc. (IMT). “They’re good for heavy lifts and situations when you need to manipulate the machine into areas. Articulating cranes are very versatile and can get into locations that aren’t necessarily tight but are unusual. For example, if you need to go under a tree and then slide something in, then an articulating crane can really help you maneuver around those obstacles better.”
IMT’s line of articulating cranes offers operators improved capabilities on the jobsite. According to Wallace, IMT’s lineup supports operators in the following ways:
- Premium performance. Excellent strength and reach, high working speed and precision control maximize operator efficiency.
- Long-reach capabilities. Hydraulically powered extensions offer reach customized for the application.
- More payload capacity. IMT articulating cranes provide lower weight and stow within themselves, resulting in more payload capacity and space for materials.
“Not everyone understands the capabilities of articulating cranes,” said Wallace. “IMT is making concerted efforts to help people learn more about what an articulating crane can do to help them get the job done.”
