Wolffkran opens new production facility in Germany.

July 18, 2008 • The grand opening of the new WOLFFKRAN production facility in Luckau, Germany, took place earlier this month. For the first time in Wolff history, the company expands its production at a new site. Numerous guests from the domestic and international political and economic arena were invited to the event.

The foundation stone for the new production facility was laid eight months ago and is now ready to be put into operation.

“We took the decision to expand in the region of Brandenburg mainly because we knew we could find locally sufficient highly qualified personnel for steel manufacturing and welding," said Ralph Frank, the managing director of the Wolffkran Werk Brandenburg GmbH. By the end of the year approximately 150 qualified skilled workers will be employed in the new plant.

The production facility equipment consists of state-of-the-art machines and lines for cutting, pre-production and production as well as corrosion protection devices and boring machines. To ensure an optimum material flow, the bridge cranes are arranged in multiple levels. Modern exhaust and filter systems are integrated in the conservation unit to meet prevailing environmental directives.

The production capacity has increased to up to 4,000 crane components per year. Since 2006 the Wolffkran Werk Brandenburg GmbH in Lübben has been manufacturing tower elements as welded steel constructions for diverse crane types. Due to the rising order situation and the growing demand for tower cranes, as well as for additional components, the manufacturing process reached its capacity limits.

The demand for additional components also results from the modular Wolff tower system. Wolffkran has offered a complete modular system for its premium cranes since the 1970s. For that reason additional components can be ordered which are fully compatible with elements from former series groups as well as those for current series groups.

The consolidation of the production of the tower elements means that the manufacturing process can be efficiently increased. By the end of the year all employees of the Wolffkran Werk Brandenburg GmbH along with newly employed skilled workers will be at the new location.
