World of Concrete Recycles 81 Percent of Post-Show Waste

February 26, 2008 • The recycling program implemented at this year's World of Concrete (WOC) meant that 81 percent of the waste collected after the show was diverted from local landfills and recycled. In addition to the typical materials used at shows, WOC also contends with concrete walls and slabs poured for demonstrations. That concrete was also recycled at the close of the show.

“World of Concrete is pleased to be taking an active role in this effort to recycle post-show waste and concrete,” said Tom Cindric, director, World of Concrete. “We are taking this proactive approach in cooperation with Freeman, who has been a valuable resource in orchestrating this effort.”

“Hanley Wood came to us in search of ways they could make World of Concrete more eco-friendly,” said Martin Moggre, vice president, sales administration for Freeman, the Dallas, Texas-based provider of integrated services for expositions including WOC. “It took some creative research, but we were very excited to find a recycling company, Evergreen Recycling, that could partner with us to produce such impressive results.”

“Working with Evergreen Recycling this year has created an important program that we hope to utilize with other Hanley Wood shows in 2008 and beyond,” added Cindric.

In addition to this post-show effort, WOC also featured GREENSITE, a new green build area where exhibitors showcased green build technologies and products along with interactive displays, video presentations, and valuable information on this growing topic of concern for the commercial and residential construction industries.

Hanley Wood Exhibitions, Dallas, Texas, conducts 17 trade shows, including World of Concrete, one of the top 20 trade show events in the country.
