Terminal de Contenedores de Yucatán, S.A. de C.V. (APM Terminals Yucatán) has placed an order for two Konecranes Gottwald ESP.7 mobile harbor cranes as part of an ongoing modernization and capacity expansion program at the Port of Progreso. The order was booked in the fourth quarter of 2025, with delivery scheduled for the end of September 2026.

Each crane will be configured to match the port’s existing infrastructure and equipped with an external power supply to support the terminal’s decarbonization strategy. The cranes will be delivered to Puerto Progreso, the primary maritime gateway for the Yucatán Peninsula.

The Port of Progreso serves as a key connection between the regional textile and manufacturing industries and the United States. As the port’s only dedicated container terminal, APM Terminals Yucatán plays a central role in foreign trade across southern Mexico. The addition of the two ESP.7 mobile harbor cranes represents a significant component of the terminal’s long-term investment program.

“Our terminal is advancing through a significant long-term investment program, and these two cranes represent important milestones along that path. We already operate earlier-generation Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbor cranes, so we are familiar with their reliability and performance. Konecranes was the natural choice for our next phase of growth,” says Victor Peter Konen, managing director and COO of APM Terminals Yucatán.

According to Konecranes, the cranes combine high performance with the option for fully electric operation. The project aligns with the terminal’s stated goals related to operational efficiency and emissions reduction.

“These customized cranes combine high performance with the option of fully electric operation, aligning perfectly with the terminal’s long-term vision. We appreciate the trust placed in our technology and look forward to continuing our modernization and ongoing operations at the Port of Progreso,” says Marc Wellenberg, regional sales manager at Port Solutions, Konecranes.

The contract is part of Konecranes’ Ecolifting program, which outlines a step-by-step approach toward reducing tailpipe emissions in port operations. The company states that its portfolio includes renewable diesel-powered drives, hybrid systems, fully electrified fleets and emerging technologies intended to support customer-specific decarbonization goals.

Konecranes operates globally in the material handling sector, with a focus on port equipment, lifting solutions and related technologies.
