LUBE-A-BOOM Launches Rope Guard Wire Rope Lubricant

September 2, 2026 - LUBE-A-BOOM has launched LUBE-A-ROPE Rope Guard, a three-in-one penetrant and lubricant designed for wire ropes and cables where visual inspection is required.

Rope Guard is initially applied as a light tan-colored grease, allowing operators and technicians to see where the lubricant has been applied while still allowing them to inspect the wire rope for frays or other damage. The product fades to clear after application.

According to LUBE-A-BOOM, Rope Guard lubricates wire rope in two ways. Its formula penetrates to the core of the wire rope, where the company says it helps protect the rope and extend its workable life. The product also creates a top coating designed to allow the rope to slide with less friction.

The top coating is designed to wick away water, helping prevent rust and corrosion, while creating a smooth surface for the rope to slide against. Rope Guard also contains properties intended to help it remain on the rope's surface during use.

“Our Rope Guard product is very exciting because of how well it lubricates without having any color tint,” said LUBE-A-BOOM Vice President Jonathon Roberts. “We saw a need to provide a product that had better lubrication properties for wire ropes than was currently available, but also one that visually would allow easy and foolproof inspection of the rope. This product accomplishes both of those goals,” said Roberts.

LUBE-A-ROPE Rope Guard is currently available as an NGLI #1 grease in 5-gallon and 1-gallon buckets and is generally compatible with auto-lube systems. An aerosol version is scheduled to become available in fall 2026.
