Texas Infrastructure Plan Projects $146 Billion in Investment

August 27, 2026 - Texas is expected to lead the nation in roadway and infrastructure project development, with more than $146 billion in projected investment following approval of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) transportation plan.

The plan includes more than $24 billion for bridge replacement and preservation as transportation agencies address aging infrastructure and increased project activity.

The investment comes as federal infrastructure funding continues to support transportation construction and rehabilitation. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, provides $1.2 trillion in total funding, with more than $673 billion designated for transportation system modernization.

Bridge Work Creates Tight Construction Windows

Bridge infrastructure remains a significant concern nationwide. According to data from the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA), one in three bridges in the country needs major repairs or complete replacement.

Much of this work must be completed while maintaining traffic flow, particularly in major urban and logistical hubs. The release notes that transportation authorities frequently require contractors to use Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) methods for these projects.

Under this approach, prefabricated sections and large girders can be replaced during overnight or weekend work windows. Contractors may face liquidated damages if roads are not reopened before the morning rush hour.

The compressed schedules create logistical challenges for projects that require heavy lifting equipment. Keeping cranes on site for extended periods can contribute to lane closures and equipment costs, according to Sarens.

Crane Deployment for Infrastructure Projects

Sarens said its U.S. operations include branches in Houston, Beaumont, and Odessa, Texas. The company offers a crane taxi rental model that allows high-capacity telescopic and all-terrain cranes to be deployed for short-duration lifting operations.

According to the release, the model is intended for projects where cranes can be brought to a worksite, used for tasks such as concrete or steel girder replacement, and removed after the work is completed.

The release states that Sarens' equipment can be deployed from its Texas locations while remaining available nationwide. The company said its cranes do not require days of on-site assembly, allowing equipment to be positioned for scheduled lifting work and removed afterward.

Sarens also cited its involvement in transportation infrastructure projects internationally, including the New Champlain Bridge project in Montreal and railway modernization projects in Massy, France, and Bettembourg, Luxembourg.

For U.S. infrastructure contractors, the projected investment in roadway and bridge projects is expected to create continued demand for construction, heavy lifting, and specialized transportation services.
